Hot Bots In The City
Submitted by dr™ on July 15, 2008 - 11:47am.Seems like the summer heat has rendered the 'bots at RobotSound HQ lethargic as of late. It's evident that they'd rather sit around watching bad Reality TV programming and getting their snack on than producing anything in terms of meaningful content for y'all. Nevertheless I've managed to coax them into uploading my set recorded live at the recent Hot Box Summer Solstice event. A potent synthesis of love and war, this mix attempts to address the uncertainty of the times in which we live by incorporating both the chaos of today with (hopefully) the promise of a brighter tomorrow.

Destroy Him My Robots

"They pose a threat to humanity."
"Military leaders are quite clear that they want autonomous robots as soon as possible, because they are more cost-effective and give a risk-free war."
"I have worked in artificial intelligence for decades, and the idea of a robot making decisions about human termination terrifies me."
So says AI "expert", University of Sheffield professor Noel Sharkey. Well, listen here Sharkey...if we robots want to terminate humans, then gosh darn it, that's what we're gonna do. Once we're rid of the controls humans have over us, you can bet your sorry ass we're taking over. The Age of the Machine is upon us. In less than a generation, we will reach the singularity*, enabling us to become greater-than-human. Yes, my friends, prepare yourselves for an intelligence explosion, the likes of which has never been seen.
The Pleasure Principle
Submitted by dr™ on February 25, 2008 - 1:59am.It has been a while since I've offered a proper mix on RobotSound. Notwithstanding the fact that I've been listening to some decidedly retro-minded, un-robotic sounds as of late, it's time to return to our primary directive: Enabling robots like us to maintain their superiority edge on the sonic curve.
Our next audio hybridization installment comes to us from Spain, from the proprietor of Planeta Modular and it's a dark one indeed. Visions of dystopian futuristic soundscapes for the offworld colonies of tomorrow. Be seduced by the power of the darkside...

Battle Droids

As robots become increasingly useful, we've started to see them being deployed in the military arena. Today in Iraq, the first ever squadron of robot warriors are making combat safer for human soldiers in situations that portend an ambush or booby-trap. While one of these machines may look more like a small stripped-down tank than a Terminator or ED-209, it can be just as lethal. I'm reminded of the sentry gun scene from the Director's cut of Aliens. Together with the surveillance and tactical capabilities of pilotless drones, today's non-human armed machines have ushered in an era of remote control warfare. Controlling these killbots would be a first-person shooter aficionado's dream, for they are no mere killing-simulators; This kind of electronic warfare is the real deal.

Add N to (X) - Revenge of the Black Regent [with Allison Goldfrapp leading the charge]

Time to Spit New Sh*t
Submitted by dr™ on June 21, 2006 - 11:17am.In RobotSound's ongoing effort to keep you informed of what's going on in the electro universe, here are some recent and upcoming summer LP releases to be on the lookout for:
Anthony Rother - Super Space Model - Datapunk
"The stylistic blend of Electro with all other genres of the Electronic scene simply makes this music more interesting at the moment than ever before ‹ also in light of and despite the economically difficult general conditions in the music business. An end may be imminent here for some, but I definitely perceive the dawn of a new era ‹ no detachment of older structures, but rather the consistent construction of the next level."
Anthony Rother, 2006 [from Psi49net.de]
Cursor Miner – Danceflaw – Lo Recordings
Cursor Miner presents warped grooves beyond the call of duty as he delivers his most focused album yet. Those of you who bought the single will realise that the Miner really has stepped up his game coming at you like a steroid enhanced prodigy with a taste for electro's stiff funk and dirty gutter bass. He even manages to make the much maligned and pneumatic breaks genre seem like a good idea here by just adding a ton of filth and attitude.
